Director of Cantare, Cambiata, and Coda Choirs

Kayla Johnson earned her Bachelors degrees in both Music Education and Mathematics from Washington State University in 2012 and earned her Masters of Arts in Choral Music Education in 2013. She has also completed the first level of Kodály certification and is a current member of the Northwest Kodály Educators (NWKE) and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). 

Kayla is both a pianist and a vocalist. As a pianist, she has accompanied many of the Bellevue Youth Choirs as well as students for recitals and festivals. As a soprano vocalist, Kayla has received three national scholarships, has been a finalist in multiple Young Artist competitions, and has performed with numerous choirs since relocating to the Seattle area in 2013. She currently sings with the Esoterics. In addition to her work with BYC, Kayla is also a Teaching Artist with Seattle Opera and teaches private voice, piano, and math lessons out of her home. 

Kayla has been with BYC since 2016 as both a pianist and the director of the Intermediate Choirs and the Girl Concert Choir. Kayla is passionate about music education, and is excited to continue to work with the amazing staff and choristers of BYC.
