Melissa Headrick has a BA in Music Education from Ithaca College with an emphasis in voice and has completed her Kodály Certification from the Seattle Kodály Levels Program. In the summer of 2018, Melissa completed her course work in the choral conducting concentration of the MAME program at the University St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN studying with Dr. Angela Broeker. She intends to complete her final research project and therefore degree during this school year.

Melissa has been teaching with BYC for three seasons; 2015-2017 Melissa was the BGC Intermediate Choir Director and 2017-2018 she was the BbC Training Choir Director. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to teach the BGC Training Choir this season and is excited to use her experience with both sides of the organization to work with all the BYC choristers and staff as Interim Artistic Director.

Melissa has been teaching for 12 years. In those 12 years she has taught in both New York State and Washington State with experience at every grade level K-12. This year, she will be teaching part-time in the Lake Washington School District as the Redmond Middle School Choir Director and will continue to direct the 11am choir at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kirkland.

Melissa is passionate about children, diverse cultures, equity, music, pedagogical practices, choir and all-around great music education. She is the current president of Northwest Kodály Educators (NWKE), the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE) Western Division President-Elect, Member of American Choral Directors Association and a music education workshop clinician.

When she is not teaching or conducting, Melissa loves to workout, spend time with neighbors and friends and keeps busy "mommy-ing." She has wonderfully supportive husband, a 6-year old son, Jasper, a 4-year old daughter, Nora, and two cats.
