Mission Statement:

The mission of Bellevue Youth Choirs is to create a joyful, inclusive musical community for youth by providing exemplary musicianship training and exciting performance opportunities.

Values

Awareness of world cultures

Expressive artistry

Respect for others

Growth through community.

Singing is universal.

Singing with deep musical understanding, skill, and humanity is truly an art. When achieved, it expresses and affirms what it means to be human, across cultures and time. We believe everyone is capable of experiencing this on some level and the mission for Bellevue Youth Choirs is to provide the training and atmosphere to attain the highest mastery of this art form.

Education is personal.

Our choristers are divided by age into choirs. Our youngest groups are non-auditioned, ages 4-8, and choristers grade 3 and above are invited to audition to place into a choir. Visit the Join page to see how your singer can join.

Only the best is good enough for children.

BYC choristers are musicians! They are taught a deep understanding of choral concepts and overall musicianship, and are given the chance to express their skills in MainStage Concerts and outreach events. BYC choristers are directed by masterful teachers who lead them to their personal best.

The Choirs:

Bellevue Youth Choirs is comprised of a variety of choir levels serving youth ages 4-18 from the greater Bellevue area.

Choristers learn musicianship, vocal technique, performance skills, and participate in mainstage concerts, outreach and community events, and collaborations with the finest musicians and choral groups.

The auditioned choirs participate in regional choral festivals and tours.

History

Bellevue Youth Choirs was founded in 2012 as Bellevue Girlchoir by Managing Artistic Director Darcy Morrissey. Soon Bellevue Boychoir was added to the organization, and in 2016 Washington State approved the application for non-profit status under the name Bellevue Youth Choirs.

Interim Artistic Director Melissa Headrick led the choirs during the 2018-19 season, in which the choirs restructured and fully became one entity: Bellevue Youth Choirs, with coed groups up through high school.

Statement of Inclusion

Bellevue Youth Choirs embraces diversity and welcomes youth of all races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our program serves our community through music.

"Mom, do you know how my heart was feeling when we were on stage?
It was feeling like this is where I truly belong."
