Board of Directors

Position Overview

The Board is responsible to the community-at-large for ensuring that BYC’s mission is carried out
legally, ethically, and transparently.

Governance Responsibilities

  • Hire executive staff for managing day-to-day operations; regularly evaluate their
    performance.
  • Approve BYC’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being
    informed of and meeting all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Define the strategic goals for the organization in partnership with executive staff.
  • Participate in regular board meetings, assess performance and take corrective actions as
    needed.
  • Represent BYC to stakeholders acting as an ambassador for the organization.
  • Ensure BYC’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities BYC
    serves.

Other Responsibilities

  • BYC Board Members will consider BYC a philanthropic priority and will make annual gifts, as
    they are able, that reflect that priority. Gifts can be given in a variety of ways, including onetime or monthly donations and in-kind support. Although Board Members are expected to contribute financially as able, BYC also invites anyone to participate, regardless of financial
    situation, knowing that support can be given in a variety of ways other than financially.
  • Serve on committees or task forces and volunteer for special assignments.

Election and Meetings

  • New board members are elected by the board to serve a three-year term. Board meetings arecurrently scheduled monthly on Zoom.

Qualifications

  • Volunteer experience in community organizations (PTA, non-profits, church councils, etc.),
    or professional experience in business, government, philanthropy, or other applicable fields.
  • A passion for music education and improving children’s lives through community.
  • The ability to work with a team, make connections and strengthen relationships with BYC
    families and the community-at-large.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and respect for others.

Directors and Officers shall serve without compensation for their services but may be reimbursed by
the Corporation for their reasonable pre-approved expenses and disbursements in that capacity on
behalf of the Corporation.
