Madeleine Stephens to resign as Executive Director

Dear BYC members and friends,

Madeleine Stephens has informed the BYC Board of Directors that she will resign as Executive Director at the end of February in order to join Village Theater in a full-time capacity. We are overjoyed for Madeleine for this great opportunity and wish her great success!

Madeleine joined BYC in 2017 after graduating from St. Olaf College. Her tireless efforts as Executive Director, grant writer, and fundraiser have been instrumental to BYC’s mission. We will miss her.

Scholarship Fund 2021: Message 2

October 22, 2021

Every month Bellevue Youth Choirs celebrates chorister birthdays in a special “sibling time,”where singers of all ages join together to celebrate in song!

Above, choristers celebrating September birthdays skip around the circle with Mrs. McIlroy.

The song we sing, adapted from an old Shaker tune, is sung at the end of our meeting:

Siblings now our meeting is over
Siblings we must part
And if I never see you anymore
I’ll love you in my heart

Yes we’ll land on the shore
And we’ll land on the shore
And we’ll sing forevermore

Message for Pride

Dear BYC community,

In 2018, Bellevue Girlchoir and Bellevue Boychoir merged under the umbrella organization Bellevue Youth Choirs. This decision was made for many reasons, an important one being to create a place for nonbinary singers to join. At that time, all lower choir levels welcomed all genders into each group, but the high school aged Premier Choir was still reserved for young women.

BYC wishes a fond farewell to two staff members

Dear BYC community,

It is bittersweet to bid farewell to two of our staff members as we close out this very strange year. Ginger Ellingson & Yuh-Pey Lin will be leaving Bellevue Youth Choirs after many years of service.

Ginger has taught nearly all choir levels at BYC, ending her time as the director of Premier, our most advanced group. Over her time, Ginger has created a vibrant culture of healthy risk-taking and strong community for our choristers. We thank her for her many years of service. From Ms. Ellingson:
